County Tournaments
Unfortunately, Dorset were unable to enter a cadet team at the under 15 age group, as there were not any girls practicing in Weymouth, Bournemouth or Christchurch at the required level.
This is also going to be the case for next season. This is partly due to a lack of recruitment over the pandemic period, though the drop in the number of girls playing has been noticeable for a few years now.
It is something that the Dorset Table Tennis Association will need to address urgently, if we are to enter teams at any county level in future years.
This is the only local competition so far this season , managed by Weymouth Area League.
In February we ran an Inter-Town tournament with Bridport, Weymouth and Dorchester taking part.
This was a first for this competition and it was great to have a wide range of abilities attend from all three towns.
The tournament was played at three ability levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Players gained points for their town depending on the finishing positions in each group, with medals also being presented to the top two players.
Weymouth were the overall champions on this occasion. Daniel Scotchmer (Dorchester), Dougie Middleton (Weymouth), Yamina Cobban (Weymouth) topped the advanced, intermediate and beginners groups respectively.
