County Tournaments

Unfortunately, Dorset were unable to enter a cadet team at the under 15 age group, as there were not any girls practicing in Weymouth, Bournemouth or Christchurch at the required level.

This is also going to be the case for next season. This is partly due to a lack of recruitment over the pandemic period, though the drop in the number of girls playing has been noticeable for a few years now.

It is something that the Dorset Table Tennis Association will need to address urgently, if we are to enter teams at any county level in future years.

This is the only local competition so far this season , managed by Weymouth Area League.

In February we ran an Inter-Town tournament with Bridport, Weymouth and Dorchester taking part.

This was a first for this competition and it was great to have a wide range of abilities attend from all three towns.

The tournament was played at three ability levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Players gained points for their town depending on the finishing positions in each group, with medals also being presented to the top two players.

Weymouth were the overall champions on this occasion. Daniel Scotchmer (Dorchester), Dougie Middleton (Weymouth), Yamina Cobban (Weymouth) topped the advanced, intermediate and beginners groups respectively.

DORSET COUNTY INTER LEAGUE COMPETITION

Child Okeford Village Hall, Sunday 20th May 2019

Held for the first time between the four affiliated County Leagues.

The Committee are hoping that this could become an annual event. If there are any recommendations, let us know.

Unfortunately only three leagues were able to get a team together: Weymouth, Blackmore Vale and Bournemouth.

The format of this competition is as follows:

This is the first Inter-League competition to be held in Dorset for many years and it is hoped, dependent on your support, to make it a regular feature each season with, perhaps, more teams representing each League in the future.

An enjoyable event by all those that took part, with the overall result below

Winners = Weymouth League, with 42 points, then Blackmore Vale with 30 points, and Bournemouth 3rd with 14 points
